There is an old church near us. Very old. it sits at the top of a hill, surrounded by ancient trees, with a view over the river and well, everything. It feels absolutely sacred. Not the church as such, but the ground. The site. The site is sacred. It's hard to describe the feeling.

I spoke to the groundsman one day. He told me it was a site of pagan worship. There are ancient stones under the church tower. I believe it. He also told me this patch of snowdrops were planted for all the children and babies who died in the nearby villages. I believe it too.
